 This course is designed for Healthcare Professionals working in Primary and Secondary care who want to learn how to interpret Spirometry. It is intended for healthcare professionals with experience of performing spirometry, or who have previously attended a foundation spirometry course.

From 2021 all practitioners who perform or interpret Spirometry will need to be on a national register – details can be found on the ARTP website

The course is run over a morning (9.30am-1.00pm) and includes refreshments.  It will be delivered by qualified physiologists with many years’ experience fo both spirometry testing and interpretation. There will be an opportunity to practice interpretation during the morning, and attendees are welcome to bring sample results that they may wish to discuss (please ensure that any data is deidentified in order to protect patient confidentiality).

Course objectives;

  • To review normal spirometry
  • To understand acceptability and repeatability criteria
  • To know which predicted values should be used and to understand how results are presented relative to these.
  • To be able to recognize different patterns of spirometry.
  • To be able to determine severity of airways obstruction.
  • To know criteria for positive reversibility.
  • To be able to interpret sample results.
