Exercise Testing

Many people with lung disease will become breathless when they do any form of exercise, for example doing the weekly shopping, walking to the bus stop or doing a bit of gardening, even just getting washed and dressed in the morning can be a challenge.

The tests described in this section will help the doctor to understand how much exercise you are able to manage and if you might benefit form some extra oxygen to help with your daily activities.

The tests can also be used to see if you are fit enough for surgery and are sometimes used as part of a rehabilitation programme.

See the left-hand menu for descriptions and videos of different types of exercise test.
